Healthy Holiday Eating Tips

holidayAlong with holiday festivities come plenty of holiday indulgence. Here are some “healthy eating tips” to keep in mind as you enjoy the holiday season.

  • Never starve yourself the day of a big party or meal, this will throw off your metabolism and cause you to be more inclined to overeat.
  • Eat a healthy snack before going to a party or open house.
  • Keep something in your hand beside food.
  • Drink a tall glass of water before going to a party or big meal.
  • Watch alcohol consumption.
  • If you must eat sweets, be selective and limit the amount.
  • Position yourself away from the food table.
  • If you are the host or hostess, provide healthy alternatives as part of your menu.
  • Remember it isn’t the big parties that cause the problem, but rather the day-by-day eating. Try to avoid the I’ve blown it syndrome.
  • Reward yourself for every day you stay on your healthy holiday eating plan.
  • Avoid emotional eating
  • At your big meals, go ahead and enjoy what is before you. Remember the key is portion-control.
  • Focus on trying to at least maintain through the holidays.
  • Remember- The holidays only come once a year! Enjoy them!
